Awake! Liposuction
AWAKE! Liposuction is a form of liposuction where you, the patient, are fully awake. Tumescent local anesthesia is used. You will be quite comfortable. The great advantage of being awake is that you can move to expose different aspects of the area being treated and you can stand so your doctor can see how thing are going. This results in better outcomes with fewer touchups.
What usually occurs before considering liposuction?
Dr. Sult, or his staff, will meet with you and discuss what area you would like to improve. The procedure of AWAKE! Liposuction will be discussed with you in detail so that you can determine if this procedure is right for you. You will have the opportunity to talk about the benefits and also the risks of liposuction. Time will be taken to answer any questions that you may have. If you choose to have liposuction, a detailed history and physical examination will then be performed for your safety. As another safety precaution, some laboratory investigations will also be performed before your AWAKE! Liposuction procedure. Your procedure is performed at Aesthetics, therefore, the waiting lists and expense that sometimes accompany procedures in a hospital may be avoided. Typically, we can arrange your procedure within weeks, sometimes days.
Will fat cells come back to the area that was treated with liposuction?
Unlike dieting, which, may be accompanied by a ”yo-yo” effect, the fat cells will not grow back from the liposuction site. There may be deposit of fat in secondary sites if diet and exercise are not maintained.
How many procedures will I need?
Typically, one liposuction procedure is all that is needed to finally remove unwanted fat. A touch-up procedure may be required to correct asymmetry and skin irregularities.
Is tumescent liposuction safe?
Thousands of people have had AWAKE! Liposuction using a mixture of the medicines including Xylocaine, Epinephrine, and sodium bicarbonate, called tumescent anesthesia. The cost of your liposuction will be determined by the areas to be treated. There is a predetermined fee for each area of the body. If you choose to have liposuction performed for more than one area, the cost of the additional areas may be discounted.
